The Hellenic Historical Society was founded in 1977 in order
to promote historical research, to develop scientific
relationships and connections and to transmit the output of
historical research in Greece and abroad. The Society also
organizes conventions, symposia and other functions,
publishes historical studies, journals and conference
proceedings.
As soon as it was founded, the H.H.S. was inducted into the
Comité Internationale des Sciences Historiques as the
Hellenic Committee of Historical Sciences and participates
as a national committee with a vote in the General
Assemblies of the International Committee for the elections
of board members and for the formation of the programme and
content of the International Conference of Historical
Sciences, which takes place every five years.
The H.H.S. has organized 32 Panhellenic Historical
Congresses (proceedings were published from the fourth
conference onwards) and publishes the peer-reviewed journal
BYZANTIAKA, which contains studies about Medieval
Hellenism. It aspires to continue these activities and to
induct new members. |
